Virtual number: what it is, how it works and what it costs

A virtual number is a real phone number, with the area or country code you choose, that is not tied to a physical line: calls arrive over the internet and you decide where they ring.

How is it different from a traditional landline number?

Callers see no difference: they dial a normal number with a normal area code. Everything changes on your side.

  • No line is needed in that city: a London number can ring in Manchester or abroad
  • You switch it on from the portal in minutes, with no engineers and no cabling
  • You change where it rings whenever you like, even from your phone

Where does a virtual number ring?

For each number you decide the call path, even in steps.

  • On SIP accounts, phones, a PBX or the app
  • Forwarded to a mobile or another number
  • To voicemail or to the AI Secretary

Which numbers can you get?

It depends on the country: each country has its own rules, and the portal only shows the numbers that can actually be activated.

  • Geographic: with a city's area code (over 230 cities in Italy)
  • National and mobile numbers, in the countries that offer them
  • International: numbers in over 90 countries, so customers in other markets can call you

Are documents required?

For some countries, yes: the local carrier asks for an ID document or an address in the number's area. The portal tells you before you buy.

  • Documents are uploaded from the portal after purchase
  • The check costs €5.00 one-off, where it is required
  • Until the check is complete, the number may not be active

How much does a virtual number cost?

A monthly or a yearly fee, with inbound calls included. Paying yearly saves money.

  • Example: an Italian geographic number currently costs €23.48 per month or €109.83 per year
  • Inbound calls included in the fee
  • The current price of every city is shown below, in the number search
