Configure a Snom phone with a SIP account

How to register a Snom phone on a Vohippo SIP account from the phone's web interface. All you need is the phone's IP address and the account's username and password, which you find in the portal.

How do I open the phone's web interface?

On Snom phones the IP address is in the system or network information menu. Open it in the browser: if an admin password is set, you will be asked for it.

  • The phone and the computer must be on the same network
  • Type the phone's IP address into the browser, for example http://192.168.1.50
  • If the default password does not work, check the phone's label or the model's manual

Which fields do I fill in?

The path is Identity (one per account). Fill in the fields like this, with your SIP account details:

  • Display Name: the name to show
  • Account: the SIP account's username
  • Registrar: sip.vohippo.com
  • Authentication Username: the same account username
  • Password: the account's password

SIP account on the phone

Username and password are in the portal: one account per phone, with its own channels and limits.

  • Server sip.vohippo.com, port 5060 UDP
  • Username and password of the SIP account
  • Codecs G.711 a-law, µ-law and G.722

How do I check that it is registered?

Save and wait a few seconds. The account status shows on the web interface's status page and, usually, on the phone's display.

  • Registered status: the account is live, you can make a test call
  • In the portal, under SIP accounts, the account shows as registered
  • Call a mobile phone: if you hear and are heard, you are done

What to know about Snom phones

Menu items can change slightly between models and firmware versions: if a field is missing, look for the one with the same meaning.

  • Each Identity is one account: how many Identities you get depends on the model
  • Codecs and advanced settings (such as NAT) are in the tabs of the same Identity
  • The registration status shows on the web interface's status page

If something goes wrong

The problems are almost always the same on every brand: they are explained in full in the general VoIP phone guide.

  • Registration rejected (403): wrong username or password, often a trailing space copied by mistake
  • Registration that comes and goes: expiry too long behind a router that closes ports, try 300-600 seconds
  • One-way audio: almost always NAT, turn off the router's SIP ALG

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put port 5060?

Usually you don't need to: 5060 is SIP's default port. If your model asks for it, add it to the Registrar as sip.vohippo.com:5060.

Should I fill in Outbound Proxy?

It is not needed: leave it empty, or use the same server.
